German Championship | Reichel competing at Challenge Kraichgau

After his successful season opener at Challenge Fuerteventura where Horst Reichel showed an impressive performance finishing third, the next hard race is waiting for him on Sunday. At Challenge Kraichgau, Reichel will be fighting for a finish among the best at the German Middle Distance Championship.

In 2010, Horst already finished on the podium at the German Championship in this classic middle distance race. Then he was second and now, four years later, he is eager to compete with the very best: "The race in Kraichgau ist of great importance to me", Reichel explained. "It not only will show my current form, but it is also a very prestigious race. I will not rely on a specific tactic, I will have to give my best right from the beginning to be in for a chance for a finish among the best."

Advantages in the land of the 1,000 hills

"At the beginning, my preparations for Challenge Kraichgau went really well", the POWER HORSE athlete revealed. But then Reichel suffered from a tonsillitis and after that he was hampered by an ankle joint injury. This had its effects on his running, whereas swimming and cycling went really well in his training sessions. In the end this could be an advantage: "On the difficult course at Kraichgau the intensive training on the bike could turn out to be beneficial. On the other hand it is very difficult to assess my current running form." In any case it will be a very exciting race on Sunday when Germany's best triathletes will be racing to crown their national champion.
