Ironman Sweden | Reichel determined to show a perfect race

Having won his races at Heinerman Triathlon Festival and Frankfurt Citytriathlon and bristling with confidence, Horst Reichel is prepared to take on Ironman Sweden. On Saturday he will give it all to fight for the podium. He is full of anticipation for the upcoming race in Kalmar which he counts among his absolute favourites.

Indeed, Ironman Sweden brings back sweet memories as two years ago Horst Reichel finished third and knows exactly what is awaiting him: "The different courses fit my strengths perfectly. The cycling course is flat and windy and suits me well." And there is something else Reichel is looking forward to very much. "The Swedes are absolutely mad about sports. The last time I started here I enjoyed some eight hours of exuberant party atmosphere", says the 32 years old athlete of the POWER HORSE Triathlon Team.

A handful of athletes will fight for victory

His goal for Ironman Sweden? The answer is clear: "I want to show a perfect race and avoid individual mistakes." Should everything work out, a podium finish is possible - "if not more", Reichel declares. He wants to be at the front of the race and control it right from the beginning. He knows perfectly how this works, as he demonstrated two weeks ago when he won the Frankfurt Citytriathlon in an impressive manner, especially with his strong performance on the bike. In Kalmar, too, Reichel could be in control right from the beginning. As an excellent swimmer he should find himself in a very good position at the start of the 180 kilometres on the bike. We will see on Saturday what his legs and the party atmosphere in Sweden will bring out in him.
